At Spartan Mechanical, apprentices are a vital part of our team. They bring fresh perspective, enthusiasm, and a strong desire to learn, while gaining hands-on experience across a wide range of domestic and commercial environments.
To mark National Apprenticeship Week, we spoke with two of our apprentices, Jaden and Mathew, about their experiences so far and their ambitions for the future.
Jaden’s Journey
Jaden highlights the variety of plumbing work Spartan offers and the opportunity to learn from different engineers across the business. Being trusted to take on hands-on tasks and working in both domestic and commercial settings has helped him build confidence and practical experience every day.
Jaden’s ambition is clear – to become a competent engineer who can pass knowledge on to others, with the long-term aim of potentially owning his own firm.
Mathew’s Motivation
For Mathew, the appeal lies in the essential nature of the trade. Plumbing and heating are fundamental to the country’s infrastructure, offering a career that combines physical, hands-on work with constant mental problem-solving. It’s this balance that makes the sector both challenging and rewarding.
Mathew points to two key developments: becoming familiar with new technologies, systems, and tools used in modern installation and maintenance, and recognising how vital communication and cooperation are when working with colleagues and clients across the industry.
Jack’s Experience
Jack’s journey with Spartan Mechanical began close to home. After seeing the company through being a neighbour, and completing work experience with the team, he quickly developed a strong interest in the trade.
One of Jack’s biggest achievements so far has been working on the Denbies Wine Estate Hotel project. As his first major job with increased responsibility, it marked an important step in building both his confidence and real-world experience on larger-scale work.
